On May 8, 2021, Big Oak Farm suffered a great tragedy. Miss Jets Cash, the mother of Fame Will Win and Famous First Prize, died during delivery. Her baby boy had severe medical issues and had to be rushed to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington. Before transport to Rood and Riddle, we were able to secure a nurse mare, Belle, for our little one. She took to him immediately and no one could tell that she was not his actual mother. After 2 surgeries to repair broken ribs and 4 holes in his diaphragm, Chance and Belle were released to the farm of a surgical tech. life.
Unfortunately, he developed complications and a third surgery was performed in early June. On June 22, 2021, Chance and Belle were released from Rood and Riddle and finally came home to Big Oak Farm. This little guy has the biggest heart and he is a fighter. His journey so far has been made easier by the best medical care from Rood and Riddle and by the love of his nurse mare mother, Belle. Chance is now weaned and is spending time with his sisters, Charli and Bindi. He is the star of the barn. We are so thankful that from the horrible tragedy of losing Miss Jets Cash, that we have been blessed to a part of this little guy's life. With Tragedy comes Chance!
